Hyundai Motor Co. is accelerating its hydrogen business in North America with a new hydrogen-powered truck and plans to establish a major refueling hub in the United States.
The South Korean automaker on Monday introduced the XCIENT Fuel Cell at the 2025 ACT Expo, a clean transportation exhibition held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. The model is a revamped version of its hydrogen electric truck tailored for the North American market.
The New XCIENT Fuel Cell was developed based on feedback from local consumers and optimized for North America’s diverse terrain and climate.
Hyundai improved the performance of the fuel cell system to boost power output and added advanced driver assistance systems such as forward collision-avoidance assist and lane departure warning.
The digital dashboard and next-generation infotainment display were expanded to 12.3 inches, and the vehicle is equipped with a commercial truck-specific navigation system that provides real-time access restriction information.
Hyundai also announced a new hydrogen and electric charging business platform dubbed HTWO Energy.
The company plans to build the first hub, HTWO Energy Savannah, near its Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia.
The Savannah facility will be capable of producing and dispensing up to 1,200 kilograms of hydrogen daily, with scalability to 4,200 kilograms per day. The site is expected to begin operations in the second half of this year, with electric charging infrastructure to follow.
Ken Ramirez, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Commercial Vehicle & Hydrogen Business at Hyundai Motor Company, said the new hydrogen truck would redefine clean logistics in North America.
“We aim to lead the establishment of a North American hydrogen ecosystem through HTWO, working in close cooperation with local partners as well as our affiliates,” he said.
