SK hynix has reportedly proposed a 70 percent price increase for its sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM4) chips to Nvidia, prompting pushback from the U.S. AI chip giant.

According to industry sources on Monday, SK hynix has set the supply price for its 12-layer HBM4 chips at $500 per unit, compared to around $300 for the previous generation HBM3E - a 60 to 70 percent hike.

SK hynix was the first among the three major memory makers to supply HBM4 samples to Nvidia back in March 2025. However, the prolonged pricing negotiations have fueled speculation that SK hynix could lose its dominance in Nvidia’s HBM supply chain.

While the Korean chipmaker has not confirmed the final pricing and declined to disclose details of its negotiations with Nvidia, the substantial proposed increase is reportedly causing friction between the two companies. Market observers note that even if the duo agrees on a price, SK hynix’s market share will ultimately depend on the volume of chips it supplies.
