Kakao Corp. has officially launched its paid content subscription service on Wednesday, expanding monetization options for creators on its Brunch Story platform.

The new service, Brunch Writer Membership, allows readers to subscribe to their favorite writers and access premium content for a monthly fee. It follows a pilot run that began in January and a recruitment drive for participating writers that started in June.

To encourage adoption and ensure stable early operations, Kakao said it will waive platform fees on subscription revenue until June next year.

Since the membership application process opened, Kakao reported a significant uptick in creative activity. The number of new writers on the platform increased 135 percent on year as of June, while the number of new works published rose by 125 percent.
