GS Caltex Corp. announced Thursday that it has begun supplying immersion cooling fluid to an LG Uplus Corp. data center, marking a step forward in the company’s push to expand in the immersion cooling market for data infrastructure.
The oil refiner is providing its cooling fluid to a demonstration room within LG Uplus’ hyperscale Pyeongchon 2 Data Center to evaluate the stability and efficiency of running artificial intelligence servers in an immersion cooling environment.
Immersion cooling involves submerging heat-generating electronic equipment directly into a non-conductive liquid, making it a next-generation solution ideal for high-heat systems such as AI servers.
The Kixx Immersion Fluid S 30 is designed to meet the stringent thermal stability demands of modern data centers while minimizing environmental and human health impact.
Since introducing Korea’s first immersion cooling fluid in 2023, GS Caltex has been collaborating with domestic and international partners to validate its technology and broaden market adoption.
The company recently worked with U.S.-based Super Micro Computer to establish a testbed at its own R&D center for evaluating thermal performance and reliability of immersion-cooled AI servers.
GS Caltex said that it will continue to invest in immersion cooling technologies to help improve energy efficiency across the data center industry.
