SK telecom will fully resume new customer sign-ups using physical SIM cards starting June 24th, 2025, following a temporary suspension caused by a major hacking incident that triggered a nationwide SIM card replacement backlog.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced Monday that it would lift its earlier administrative guidance that had restricted the company’s ability to accept new customers. The decision follows improvements in SIM supply and shorter wait times at retail locations.

In early May, the ministry ordered SK telecom to halt new customer registrations until the disrupted supply of replacement SIMs was stabilized. The mobile carrier had suspended new subscriptions across more than 2,600 T World stores nationwide since May 5th while free SIM replacements were being carried out.
