Meta Platforms Inc. is preparing to launch a new generation of smart glasses equipped with a built-in display, aiming to expand its dominance in the extended reality (XR) market, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Codenamed Hypernova, the smart glasses will display information such as phone calls, messages, maps, and photos through a micro display embedded beneath the right lens.

The product is expected to be priced at a minimum of $1,000, with estimates ranging up to $1,400—significantly higher than the current Ray-Ban smart glasses without a display, which start at $299.

Despite the higher price, the new model will retain the core features of the Ray-Ban line, including hands-free calling, photo and video capture, and voice interactions with Meta’s AI assistant.

The glasses will also come with a wearable electromyography (EMG) band for input recognition, first introduced in Meta’s Orion prototype in September 2024.

Gesture control via finger movement, similar to Apple’s Vision Pro, will also be included.

Meta is reportedly working on additional versions of the product.

Hypernova 2 will feature displays in both lenses, while a separate Supernova 2 model will forgo the display entirely, Bloomberg said.
