
South Korea’s Hyundai Motor marked the 20th anniversary of its first U.S. production base, the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) plant, with a commemorative event held at the facility in Montgomery, Alabama.
The ceremony took place on May 5th, 2025, and was attended by HMMA employees. Chris Susock, president and CEO of HMMA, said, “HMMA has built more than vehicles and engines. We now have a history to be proud of.”
The plant began operations on May 20th, 2005, with the Sonata as its first production model and HMMA has produced 6.27 million Sonata vehicles since then. It now manufactures a range of models including the Hyundai Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, and Tucson, as well as the Genesis GV70 and its electrified version. The plant’s annual production volume totals 360,000 vehicles.
