South Korea’s largest elevator manufacturer Hyundai Elevator Co. announced on Wednesday that it has completed construction of its Hyundai Asan Tower, a test tower for elevator technology development and performance verification, in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province.
The company held a completion ceremony in the attendance of Hyundai Group Chair Hyun Jeong-eun, Hyundai Elevator Chief Executive Officer Cho Jae-cheon, and around 200 company officials. Key local figures also attended, including North Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Young-hwan and Chungju Mayor Cho Gil-hyeong.
“Asan Tower is a space that brings together the technology and trust Hyundai Elevator has built over the past 40 years,” Hyun said at the ceremony.
Hyundai Elevator had used its 205-meter test tower in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, since relocating its headquarters to Chungju.
With the completion of the Asan Tower, all its research and development (R&D) facilities will be relocated to Chungju.
The Asan Tower is 250 meters high with a gondola on the top floor, which is among the top three tallest test towers in the world.
The facility can accommodate and test up to 19 elevators simultaneously, significantly enhancing the company’s R&D capabilities.
The three-floor R&D center inside the tower houses more than 160 research personnel.
