Samsung SDI signed a battery supply deal with Tesvolt, a German manufacturer of commercial energy storage systems (ESS), marking a strategic step to strengthen its foothold in the fast-growing European ESS market.
Under the agreement announced on Wednesday, Samsung SDI will provide its all-in-one containerized battery solution, the Samsung Battery Box (SBB), to Tesvolt by the end of June 2025. Tesvolt will integrate the SBB with its own power conversion systems (PCS) and cybersecurity technologies to deliver customized ESS solutions for clients across Europe.
The two companies also plan to expand their partnership through additional supply negotiations and joint promotional efforts aimed at securing new ESS projects in the European market.
The Samsung Battery Box is a 20-foot container housing battery cells, modules, and racks. It is designed for plug-and-play use, enabling quick integration into existing power grids. Its enhanced safety features and ease of deployment have earned recognition in global markets, particularly in the United States and Europe.
Samsung SDI has been supplying ESS batteries to Tesvolt since 2017. A company official said the new SBB supply deal will deepen cooperation and accelerate Samsung SDI’s efforts to expand its global market presence.
The company will begin shipping the upgraded SBB 1.5 model starting in the second quarter of 2026, following the delivery of the SBB 1.0.
Founded in 2014, Tesvolt is a prominent player in Europe’s commercial ESS sector. It has been expanding its footprint rapidly, including securing a major ESS supply contract for a facility in southwestern Germany’s Rhineland-Palatinate. The company is also broadening its focus to include large-scale grid ESS solutions.
