As the U.S.-China trade war intensifies, more than half of South Korean exporters expect supply chain conditions to worsen in 2025 compared to the year before. Companies say U.S. trade sanctions are having a greater negative impact on supply chains than China’s export controls on raw materials.

The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) on Sunday released a report on Korean firms’ perceptions of supply chain risks stemming from U.S. and China export controls under Trump’s second term. The report is based on a survey conducted from February 24th to March 10th, 2025, on 740 manufacturing companies that recorded more than $500,000 in exports last year.

According to the survey, 53.4 percent of respondents said they expect global supply chain sourcing conditions to deteriorate compared to 2024 under Trump’s second term. About 41.4 percent said conditions would remain similar to last year, while only 5.5 percent anticipated an improvement. By company size, middle market companies (55.1 percent) and small businesses (53.5 percent) were more concerned about worsening supply conditions than large corporations (36.8 percent).
