South Korea should build artificial intelligence (AI)-driven manufacturing innovation technologies in response to China’s AI development strategy, according to a report on Sunday.

The Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade (KIET) presented this analysis in a report titled, “China’s AI Innovation Strategy amid U.S.-China AI Competition and Our Industry’s Response,” on Sunday.

KIET pointed out that China is improving productivity in its manufacturing sector, which faces oversupply, with AI technologies.

It noted that China has actively adopted new technologies to boost its global market share in sectors such as electric vehicles, batteries, and solar power.

It further projected that China will achieve similar cost reductions in areas like robotics, autonomous driving, and biotechnology moving forward.

Thr report advised that Korea should expand its adoption of AI technology in fields such as semiconductors, industrial robots, biomanufacturing, and healthcare.

It also stressed that Korea should quickly build an AI manufacturing ecosystem to secure a competitive edge over China.
