Kakao Games has postponed the release schedules for several of its highly anticipated titles, including Chrono Odyssey, citing the need to improve optimization and overall quality.
According to the company on Wednesday, Chrono Odyssey—an online action role-playing game (RPG) originally slated for a fourth-quarter release this year—has been pushed back to the fourth quarter of 2026. Two other upcoming titles, the subculture-themed Project C and the MMORPG Project Q, have also been delayed from the fourth quarter this year to the second quarter of next year.
ArcheAge Chronicle, which was expected to launch in the first quarter of 2025, is now scheduled for the fourth quarter of the same year. Meanwhile, the release date for the game adaptation of the popular web novel Swordmaster‘s Youngest Son has been changed from sometime in 2026 to “to be determined.”
Kakao Games CEO Han Sang-woo said during the company’s second-quarter earnings call that a recent closed beta test for Chrono Odyssey confirmed the game’s global potential but also revealed performance issues that needed addressing. “We received feedback pointing to areas for improvement in optimization, and concluded that additional development time is necessary to meet our quality standards,” he said.
CFO Cho Hyuk-min added that while the delays may slow revenue growth in the short term, the decision was essential for achieving long-term success. “This is a temporary adjustment in speed,” he said, “but we remain committed to delivering a meaningful rebound in performance once these major titles are launched.”
