As South Korea braces for early summer heat and the onset of the rainy season, men’s Bermuda shorts are shedding their image as vacation wear and emerging as a go-to choice for everyday and even office attire.
The style’s growing variety and comfort have helped push its appeal beyond younger men in their 20s and 30s to middle-aged consumers.
According to the fashion industry on Sunday, major brands are accelerating the launch of men‘s shorts lines and expanding their offerings to meet surging demand.
LF’s flagship brand Hazzys released its summer shorts lineup three weeks earlier than last year and increased its initial stock by over 30 percent. Shinsegae International’s label Studio Tomboy also recorded a 54 percent increase in men’s shorts sales between March and June compared to the same period a year ago.
Online fashion platforms popular among younger shoppers are also driving the trend.
On Musinsa, Bermuda denim shorts from Dimitri Black topped overall pants sales over the past month.
Shorts worn by celebrity athlete Choo Sung-hoon from the Musinsa Standard line also gained traction, boosted by a mix of functionality and celebrity marketing.
Bermuda shorts, which fall just below the knee, are especially favored for their modest coverage and versatility—they pair well with both shirts and blazers, making them suitable for casual work settings.
Interest in men’s shorts is also surging across major e-commerce platforms.
On LF Mall, searches for “men’s shorts” doubled between March and early June compared to last year.
EQL, an online store run by Handsome Corp., reported more than a 30 percent year-on-year increase in shorts sales over the same period. SSF Shop, operated by Samsung C&T‘s fashion unit, also saw a rise of over 20 percent in searches for terms like “men’s shorts.”
Demand is no longer limited to the younger crowd.
Hazzys’ newly launched Pleats Relax Shorts recorded over 80 percent of sales from men in their thirties and forties.
On Posty, a platform targeting older shoppers, searches for men’s shorts during May and June jumped 104 percent from a year ago, while order volume rose by 26 percent.
