South Korea’s HD Hyundai XiteSolution, the holding company of HD Hyundai Construction Equipment Sector, is set to become the nation’s first company to launch medium- and large-sized electric forklifts, with eight new models slated for global release in June 2025.
The new forklifts, which range from 4 to 9 tons, mark the first time a domestic manufacturer has introduced electric models exceeding 5 tons, the company said on Tuesday. These vehicles feature high-performance lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries capable of operating for up to 11 hours on just one hour of charge.
Outfitted with high-voltage batteries and efficient permanent magnet motors, the forklifts deliver output comparable to or surpassing that of internal combustion engines. A thermal battery management system enables stable performance even at extreme temperatures.
Designed for harsh outdoor environments like shipyards and ports, the machines offer IP67-rated water and dust resistance as well as passing rigorous water-spray and submersion tests. They also feature a “creep” function for precision low-speed driving without accelerator input - an industry first for vehicles in this class.
While smaller electric forklifts have become common indoors for environmental and noise reasons, outdoor models have remained primarily diesel or LPG due to less demand for electrification. With the transition to electric heavy industrial vehicles currently accelerating due to stronger carbon neutrality policies and advances in battery technology, HD Hyundai XiteSolution is moving quickly to seize this market opportunity.
The company aims to lead electrification in high-weight operations such as shipyards, ports, and construction sites while expanding its electric forklift lineup to strengthen global competitiveness. According to The Business Research Company, the global electric forklift market is projected to grow from $73 billion in 2025 to $114.9 billion by 2029 with an average annual growth rate of 12 percent.
“These new electric heavy-duty vehicles are optimal solutions for companies aiming to achieve ESG goals and reduce carbon emissions,” Huh Kwang-hee, who heads the industrial vehicle division at HD Hyundai XiteSolution, said.
