McDonald’s Korea has decided to temporarily remove tomatoes from some of its burgers due to a supply shortage caused by the heatwave this summer.
The fast-food chain announced on Tuesday that items like the Tomato Cheese Beef Burger will be served without tomatoes for now, citing challenges in maintaining a stable supply.
To make up for the missing ingredient, McDonald’s is offering free drink coupons to affected customers. The timing of the changes may vary by location.
McDonald’s Korea noted that the extreme heat during the summer has significantly impacted tomato crops. It remains unclear when the supply will return to normal levels, it said.
This is not the first time McDonald’s has faced supply chain disruptions.
In June, McDonald’s Korea temporarily halted French fry sales due to issues with its frozen potato supply.
Other fast-food chains, including Lotteria and Burger King, are keeping a close eye on the situation, but have not yet announced any menu changes.
