An electric vehicle (EV) powered by Samsung SDI Co. battery has set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled on a single charge.

According to Samsung SDI on Thursday, the Lucid Air Grand Touring, built by U.S. electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors Inc., covered 1,205 kilometers (749 miles) between Sankt Moritz, Switzerland, and Munich, Germany, surpassing the previous record of 1,045 kilometers.

Launched last year, the long-range model is fitted with 6,600 of Samsung SDI’s 21700 cylindrical battery, which uses a high-nickel nickel-cobalt-aluminum cathode and silicon-based anode for higher capacity, longer life, and faster charging.

It boasts zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 3 seconds, a maximum output of 831 horsepower, and a top speed of 270 kilometers per hour. It can also travel 400 kilometers on a 16-minute charge.

Lucid Motors was founded in the United States in 2007. Starting with the manufacture of EV battery packs, the company has been engaged in the development of high-performance EVs.

Its production base is located in Arizona, the U.S. Samsung SDI and Lucid formed a strategic partnership in 2016.

“The adoption of our cylindrical cells in the world’s longest-range EV demonstrated the company’s cutting-edge technology,” said an official from Samsung SDI. “We will work with Lucid Motors to expand global market share and speed development of products combining superior performance and safety
