SK telecom Co. will introduce a new USIM reset solution starting Monday, allowing users to update critical user information without physically replacing the card, a move aimed at preventing illegal USIM cloning.

The company also announced during a Sunday briefing at its Seoul headquarters that the feature would soon be extended to roaming users abroad, enabling them to access the same security benefits as domestic customers.

The new reset technology modifies certain authentication data on the USIM while preserving user-stored information, such as financial certificates, T-money balances, and contacts.

The company says this prevents unauthorized access, even if cloned USIM data is used, without requiring re-registration or a new USIM.

Both physical USIM and eSIM users can utilize the service.

Initially, the feature will be offered to customers who receive a USIM replacement notification and visit T World stores, but SK telecom is considering expanding access.

Customers who opt for the reset but later decide to return to a physical USIM can switch once for free.

“The USIM reset provides the same level of security and convenience as replacing the card, offering users a flexible, secure alternative,” the company said.
