South Korea’s SK chemicals Co. will supply 2,000 tons of eco-friendly materials to Malaysia’s top kitchenware company by 2027.
The company said on Thursday that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LH Plus Sdn. Bhd. at the latter’s headquarters in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.
LH Plus specializes in manufacturing plastic-based kitchenware products. Under the duo’s agreement, SK chemicals will supply up to 2,000 tons of its biomass-based copolyester “ECOZEN” and recycled plastic material “Skypet CR’ to LH Plus by 2027, which is is equivalent to the amount needed to produce 100 million 1-liter water bottles.
They plan to jointly develop kitchenware products using ECOZEN and Skypet CR and actively target global brand companies. ECOZEN is a material known for its glass-like transparency and is considered suitable for kitchenware as it does not contain bisphenol A (BPA), a type of environmental hormone, while Skypet CR is made from chemically recycled plastic waste.
“Demand for eco-friendly plastics is growing in the Asia-Pacific region,” Kim Eung-soo, head of Green Materials Business Division at SK chemicals, said. “This partnership will help us deliver optimized solutions from materials to finished products.”
