Gmarket Inc., the e-commerce platform under South Korean retailer Shinsegae Group, has launched Sunday delivery service.
Gmarket announced on Sunday that it has integrated Sunday delivery into its Star Delivery service through its partnership with CJ Logistics Corp.
Star Delivery guarantees 100 percent on-time delivery, ensuring purchases are delivered by the promised date.
The service is available on Gmarket and Auction, both e-commerce platforms under Shinsegae Group.
The service will initially cover 14 product categories, about 150,000 items, stored at Gmarket’s Dongtan logistics center.
With CJ Logistics now offering seven-day delivery, Gmarket and Auction have expanded Star Delivery to operate every day of the week.
CJ Logistics’ decision to begin seven-day delivery allows open-market platforms to expand their delivery capabilities.
This move follows feedback from CJ Logistics’ client survey, which showed strong demand for seven-day delivery among industries such as home shopping and food.
China-based e-commerce companies operating in Korea are also expected to enhance their delivery services.
Alibaba’s AliExpress Korea, which formed a joint venture with Gmarket late last year, has been ramping up its presence in the Korean market.
According to industry insiders, CJ Logistics already handles about 80 percent of AliExpress shipments, meaning the new seven-day delivery service could also extend to AliExpress.
