South Korea’s LG Uplus is ramping up its telecommunications services for foreigners in the country, aiming to capture over 50 percent of the market share by 2027. The company’s current share is around 45 percent, including MVNO subscribers.

The carrier announced on Thursday that it will offer subscription consultations in 17 languages, including Korean, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Thai, Burmese, Mongolian, Uzbek, and Lao, along with tailored documentation support.

LG Uplus operates 67 specialized stores nationwide for foreign residents and plans to expand its foreign-language consultation staff to 170, the largest in the Korean telecom industry. Seventeen of these locations, where foreign visitor traffic is especially high, will be converted into “Global Telecom Centers” with dedicated services.

The move comes as Korea’s foreign resident population grew by 23 percent from 2.03 million in 2020 to 2.65 million in 2024, according to immigration statistics. The company said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost competitiveness via market segmentation since CEO Hong Bum-shik took office in December 2024.
