Google LLC’s next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) assistant project, Astra, will introduce some of its features via Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy S25 series.
Astra, built on Google’s Gemini AI model, is designed to integrate video, audio, and text recognition, providing real-time response. The goal is to create an AI assistant that interacts like a human in everyday conversations.
According to the information technology (IT) industry on Sunday, following Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S25 unveiling on January 23rd, 2025, Demis Hassabis, chief executive officer of Google DeepMind, shared on his X account that “Project Astra is our vision for a universal AI assistant.”
“Soon some of its capabilities will come to Android & Samsung Galaxy S25 devices via GeminiApp,” he said. “Super excited to partner with Samsung to bring Astra features there first. More to come in the months ahead.”
Samsung Electronics also confirmed their partnership. The company’s Mobile account responded with a comment, saying that it is looking forward to what is ahead and that they have a lot to achieve together.
Astra is currently being tested on Android smartphones. Google also plans to integrate Astra beyond the Gemini app, expanding to Samsung smartphones and other form factors.
Experts believe that AI assistants, combining text, voice, and visual processing, could lead to a new user experience paradigm.
There is growing industry interest in how Astra will fit into Samsung’s Galaxy AI strategy. The company has fully entered the AI smartphone competition with the Galaxy S25 by implementing its own Galaxy AI services.
Astra’s official launch date remains uncertain. However, since Google’s CEO specifically mentioned the Galaxy S25, industry experts speculate that some Astra features will be added within 2025.
