LG Electronics Inc. is building its third home appliance plant in India as part of a strategic push to meet growing demand for premium products and strengthen its position as a leading household brand in the country.

The company announced it held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for the new factory in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The plant represents a total investment of approximately $600 million and spans one million square meters. Production will begin with air conditioners at the end of 2026 and will be followed by washing machines, refrigerators, and compressors.

Once operational, the facility will have an annual capacity of 800,000 refrigerators, 850,000 washing machines, 1.5 million air conditioners, and 2 million compressors. It will complement LG’s existing plants in Noida and Pune to establish a nationwide supply network. The company sees expanded local production as key to becoming India’s leading home appliance brand.

India offers significant growth potential with its low appliance penetration and rapid economic development. LG aims to leverage the new plant to meet not only domestic demand but also that of neighboring markets in the Middle East and South Asia.

The company also plans to increase output of premium appliances, including products tailored to local preferences such as convertible refrigerators suited for vegetarian households and washing machines designed for traditional Indian garments like sarees.

LG is further enhancing its sales and service capabilities, operating around 700 branded stores and 900 service centers across India with multilingual support available in 12 languages.

The Sri City plant is part of LG’s broader regional strategy to expand in emerging markets often referred to as the “Global South,” including Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa. “The Sri City plant is a milestone in our journey to solidify our brand in India,” the company said, reaffirming its commitment to market leadership via localized products and innovation.
