SK chemicals Co. announced Tuesday that its bio-based material Ecotrion will be used in the new 2025 Srixon G-Star series golf balls, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent.
The company said Ecotrion, applied to the new balls developed by Dunlop Sports Korea, is made entirely from bio-based ingredients and boasts excellent elasticity, resilience, and abrasion resistance while minimizing environmental impact. According to SK chemicals, life cycle assessment (LCA) analysis showed that Ecotrion can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent compared to conventional petrochemical-based polyol production.
Steve Kim, head of the Green Materials Business Division at SK chemicals, said bio-based materials represent a strong alternative to petroleum-based materials. “We will continue collaborating with various brands through Ecotrion to create a sustainable ecosystem that combines high functionality with eco-friendliness,” he said.
Dunlop Sports Korea supplies premium golf and tennis products in Korea, with global brands such as Srixon, XXIO, and Cleveland Golf.
