LG CNS Co., a digital transformation company under South Korea’s LG Group, announced on Monday that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Bear Robotics Inc., a mobility platform company specializing in autonomous robots, to co-develop intelligent and automated logistics solutions using autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
Bear Robotics, headquartered in Silicon Valley, the United States, supplies over 20,000 artificial intelligence (AI)-based service robots across more than 20 countries worldwide. The company offers seamless and remote AMR solutions through its proprietary robot platform, which controls robot traffic within logistics processes without interruption. It is recognized for its competitive edge in swarm control technology, which allows the efficient operation of up to 1,000 robots within a single space.
Under the agreement, LG CNS and Bear Robotics will jointly develop intelligent and automated logistics solutions using AMRs. The two companies will initially focus on developing large AMRs for logistics projects involving the transportation of heavy items, such as those used in heavy industries. They will also develop small AMRs capable of continuous operation within LG CNS’s automated logistics systems to transport goods without interruption.
This collaboration will enable the companies to provide a variety of AMRs and control solutions tailored to the volume and internal structure of logistics centers. Logistics centers will be able to establish intelligent and automated logistics processes through uninterrupted and remote operation of AMRs, significantly improving efficiency by reducing logistics costs and time, LG CNS said.
The duo will, for example, propose optimized logistics AMRs and the appropriate number of robots for logistics centers that handle the frequent movement of heavy goods, taking factors such as weight, volume, and movement routes into account. They will also provide a control system that supports the remote operation, route planning, traffic management, and performance monitoring of the AMRs.
