South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang Inc. has established a system to produce cargo carriers, or pallets, by recycling the plastic components of its end-of-life Rocket Fresh Bags.
According to the company on Sunday, the Fresh Bag, a specialized insulated bag for fresh food delivery, was first introduced in March 2020.
Coupang estimates that the introduction of Fresh Bags has reduced the use of styrofoam boxes by more than 200 million units annually.
Fresh Bags, however, also have a limited lifespan and typically go through disposal procedures after about 100 uses.

To address this, Coupang partnered with NPC Co., an industrial plastic manufacturer, in the first half of last year to develop a technology that extracts plastic from the Fresh Bags in a bid to make them fully recyclable.
The company expects the recycling of Fresh Bags to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8,050 tons annually.
